Starbucks breakfast a big success

starbucks Coffee houses aren’t just for coffee any more—especially at breakfast time.

Java joints like Starbucks are steadily expanding their breakfast menus, though usually at a considerably higher price than McDonald’s or Burger King.

For instance, Starbucks' alternative to a McDonald’s coffee and Egg McMuffin will set you back $7—for coffee with a breakfast sandwich of ham, egg and cheese (24 grams of fat, 500 calories).

Coffee Beanery also now offers a smoked-ham and egg sandwich for breakfast, with 31 grams of fat and 300 calories.

Food critics speculate that coffee shops like Starbucks will only gain from this development. They predict that loyal McDonald's customers who would otherwise still opt for an Egg McMuffin will drop by Starbucks for a coffee they feel is superior—and wind up buying breakfast in the bargain.

They also predict that many customers will abandon McDonald’s entirely for a "classier" alternative—if a slightly pricier one.
