Weight-loss tips for Subway fans

subwayJust because it says “Subway” doesn’t mean its slimming.  The healthy choice items at Subway shops cast an undeserved glow of health on everything the chain serves, according to Cornell University research. As a result, customers load their “diet” subs with cheese, mayonnaise, and other high-calorie toppings, or order other subs that are already loaded with fat and calories.

Subway offers eight subs with six grams of fat or less. The average calories in one of these are 570. But researchers found that customers were guessing they’d only had about 375 calories in their sandwich. That might lead to a heavier meal for dinner, the researchers said.

An easy way to make Subway sandwiches more weight-friendly is to lighten-up on the cheese, may0, and other high-calorie toppings.  Ask the clerk to scrape out the middle of your bun before he make your sandwich.  This not only reduces the number of empty calories, but it makes more room for extra veggie toppings.  And go for the oat bun; it has more fiber that all of the other choices.
