Subway gets even healthier |
New Subway ‘Fresh Fit’ meals are being introduced in restaurants across
the country. Developed to adhere to the American Heart Association's
‘healthy lifestyle’ recommendations, the Adult and Kids meals consist
of a choice of 8 different low-fat sandwiches and "fit" sides and
beverages—including sliced apples, raisins, Lay’s baked potato chips, 1
percent low-fat milk, juice, water and Diet Soda.
The 6” sandwiches — with the usual toppings of lettuce, tomatoes,
onions, green peppers, pickles and olives on wheat bread — range from
230 calories per serving for the “Veggie Delite”®, to 370 calories per
serving for the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki. Subway will highlight its
new menu additions with an apple-shaped icon. Through a partnership
with Weekly Reader Corp., it will introduce the ‘Fresh Fit’ program in
more than 40,000 schools, stressing the importance of proper nutrition
and exercise.
