Wendy’s keeps its "no trans-fat" promise |
Wendy’s, which has over 6,000 restaurants in the US, is the only major fast food chain that uses no trans-fat in any of its foods…
While American restaurants and food manufacturers are still struggling to replace unhealthy trans-fatty oils in their cooking and food preparation, hoping to stay ahead of upcoming food label requirements, Wendy’s has beaten everyone to the punch.
Some fast food outlets are still begging the government for extra time to come up with a replacement oil that meets their requirements for cost, convenience, and taste. Wendy’s is the only major fast food chain that has already completed the switch to zero trans-fat.
Wendy’s, which has over 6,000 restaurants in the US, aggressively sought and tested new oils and implemented the switch over a period of two years.
Interim CEO Kerrii B. Anderson said the company is proud to have fulfilled its promise to customers to make the change and become the first major chain to complete the switch to non-hydrogenated oil for preparing its chicken and fries.
Trans-fat has been implicated as a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, and as the public has become more aware of the danger, food outlets have scrambled to replace it with healthier oils and fats.
